Omaha, NE — The Bridge Project, an innovative initiative that provides unconditional cash stipends to mothers of newborns, launched today in Omaha. Building on successful launches in New York, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Massachusetts, and Indiana, The Bridge Project will support 350 eligible pregnant women in the city.
Based on extensive research on the lifelong harm caused by growing up in poverty, the program invests directly and flexibly in the critical years of early childhood.
Program participants will receive:
$1,125 one-time, upfront prenatal stipend
$750 per month for the first 15 months of program participation
$375 per month for the remaining 21 months of program participation
Research and early data from existing The Bridge Project cohorts — which have served more than 3,500 families across the country — demonstrate significant positive impacts including increased savings, improved mental health and reduced stress, greater household stability and better employment opportunities due to financial flexibility.

Eligibility Requirements:
Be 18 years or older
Have an annual household income under $44,000
Be 27 weeks pregnant or less
Reside in Douglas County
No Social Security Number or ITIN required
The Bridge Project’s expansion to Douglas County is made possible through funding from The Sherwood Foundation.
