Bridging Out

The Bridge Project had mainly focused on work with women 18 years and over. However, we realised there was a gap in our provision and that the needs of women under 18 were not being met. As a result of this realisation the 'Bridging Out' programme has been set up. Bridging Out is a responsive programme aimed at 2 specific target groups - young women aged 13 - 19 years who are excluded from education, training or employment and young mothers.
The Bridging Out programme is aimed at empowering young women, increasing confidence, self-esteem and personal effectiveness by raising aspirations. The programme is funded by the Neighbourhood Support Fund, City of Sunderland College and Connexions.

The Connect Course.
This course is 2.5 days per week for 36 weeks and students are classed as full time. The course offers the students opportunities in First Aid, Interpersonal Skills, Equal Opportunities, Computers, Team Building and involves an over night residential. The young women evidence their experience in a portfolio (diary) and they receive a City & Guilds 3791 Profile of Achievement.

Well Connected.
This course can be run 1 day a week for 5 weeks, it is a continuation and progression from the Connect Course and provides learning opportunities to access the young women into college, training or employment.
